Dental Implants

Dental Implants help patients maintain a healthy, natural tooth structure by replacing individual or missing teeth without involving adjacent teeth. Implants can give removable or replacement teeth (e.g. dentures) a strong foundation to anchor it from moving. The implant is integrated into to your jawbone which forms a solid foundation to build upon.

There are two main steps to placing a dental implant:

  • First, a small, screw-like post made of titanium is surgically inserted into the jawbone. This implant post provides a strong foundation for the restoration and replaces the missing tooth roots. Every patient goes through a healing period to let the bone tissues integrate with the dental implant post.
  • Second, the implant restoration is placed. Restorations include custom made dental crowns, dentures, or dental bridges. These restorative components are attached to the top of the implant post to replace the crown of the missing teeth or tooth.

While your at-home dental care will keep calculus build-up and plaque to the minimum, it is important to attend regular appointments with your dentist to monitor and maintain your oral health. A professional cleaning removes deposits your toothbrush and floss cannot reach. A dental cleaning typically involves preventative and diagnostic services, in which your teeth are cleaned and polished. Routine checkups also include oral cancer screenings, evaluations for gum disease, and X-rays.

If you are missing a tooth due to gum disease, injury, or tooth decay, dental bridges may be used to fix the problem. If the issue is not corrected, missing teeth can cause greater problems to your overall health. Tooth-colored fillings or composite fillings are typically bonded to adjacent natural teeth. Composite fillings can be shaped and polished to match your natural teeth, which both restores esthetics and function to your mouth.

Like composite fillings, porcelain veneers are made with tooth-colored materials, which makes the restoration look more natural. Veneers are thin, custom-made porcelain casings that are applied to the front side of teeth to correct misshapen, discolored or chips. This procedure is often very conservative, as a small amount of tooth enamel is removed in order to fit the veneers on your teeth. This gives you a strong and esthetic look to your smile!

Root Canal/Endodontic Treatment

When a cavity reaches the pulp of a tooth and causes an infection, endodontics or root canal therapy is necessary. After severe trauma to a tooth, a root canal may be necessary as well. Regular visits to your family dentist can help prevent the need for a root canal, but once the tooth's pulp has been infected, it must be treated to avoid future problems. This is because the infection cannot heal itself. You may have an infected pulp if your develop a sensitivity to cold or hot foods, have a bad taste in your mouth, or pain and swelling. In some cases, patients have no obvious symptoms and are unaware of a problem until they are at a routine visit with their dentist.

During endodontic treatment, the canals of the tooth are disinfected and the infected pulp is cleaned out. A special material is then filled into the canals to prevent further infections. This helps progress the healing process. In some cases, a bonded post, crown or bridge will be utilized to restore function to the infected tooth.

Tooth Whitening

Tooth whitening is quick, safe, and inexpensive. It is one of the simplest and easiest ways to give your smile extra shine. Depending on how much you show when you talk and smile, we can help you lighten only your upper teeth or all of your teeth.

Custom bleaching splints will be ready for you to pick up in only a day or two. The special bleaching agents will be given to you. This agent is placed into the splints and then worn on your teeth for a few hours a day. The whitening agent oxidizes the stains out of the enamel of your teeth. After you reach your desired level of brightness, you will only need to treat your teeth occasionally to maintain your new, whitened smiled. This process is great for patients who would like to correct teeth discoloration caused by aging, staining, or chemical damage to your teeth.

Inlays & Onlays

If more than half of a tooth's biting surface has been damaged, an inlay or onlay is often used to correct the problem. Inlay and onlays can be made from a variety of materials including gold, composite resin, and porcelain. Pieces are bonded to the damaged areas of a tooth. Inlays are similar to fillings, and are used on the cusp tips of a tooth. Onlays are for more substantial reconstructions, and are often extended over one or more cusps of the tooth.

Gold is the traditional material used to inlays and onlays. Porcelain has become increasingly popular in recent years due to its natural looking colors and its strength.

Fillings repair minor damage and tooth decay. There are many types of filling materials with the two main ones being composite resins (tooth-colored) and amalgam. Tooth colored fillings are bonded directly to the teeth, which helps to reinforce the remaining tooth structure. In addition, more tooth are left intact. These types of fillings also wear like natural teeth and look very natural. Amalgam filling materials (silver ones) do have their purpose and are great for areas where a dry field from saliva is difficult to attain. Each have advantages and disadvantages and each has their own place. Dr. Kulik will discuss which material best suits your needs.

Children's Dentistry

Children should see a dentist when their first tooth appears and no later than their first birthday. Their first “regular” dental visit should be just after their third birthday.

During a child's first visit, we will gently examine their teeth and gums and make sure they have come in correctly and are not decayed. We may take X-rays, which will reveal and hidden decay and help us check on the status of the child's developing permanent teeth. A topical fluoride treatment may be applied to a child's teeth and we will make sure they are receiving enough fluoride at home to promote the strength and development of their teeth and mouth. Finally, we will review with parents how to properly care and clean their child's teeth at home.

Advanced Technologies

Gum Disease Laser Treatment

Gum disease is a chronic, painless, and silent infection that can often go undetected until it has caused severe damage to a patient. Gum disease of periodontal disease happens when bacteria gets below your gum line and attaches itself between the gum and the tooth, often causing tooth loss. Gum disease can cause tooth loss and destroy parts of the jaw bone.

Laser gum disease treatments disinfect and evaporate diseased tissue from around the tooth and inside the tissue pockets. Generally patients will need to undergo 2-8 visits completely disinfect the gum tissue. This treatment is less painful and has a faster recovery time. It is a good treatment option for patients with beginning to moderate cases of periodontal disease.
